Description

QAL’AT JABAR – TABQAH – SYRIA

QAL'AT JA'BAR IS A FORTRESS LOCATED ON THE BANKS OF THE EUPHRATES RIVER. WHAT WAS ONCE A PROMINENT HILL OVERLOOKING THE EUPHRATES VALLEY IS NOW AN ISLAND ACCESSIBLE ONLY BY AN ARTIFICIAL CAUSEWAY. ALTHOUGH THE HILL ON WHICH THE CASTLE STANDS WAS PROBABLY ALREADY FORTIFIED IN THE 7TH CENTURY, EXISTING STRUCTURES PRIMARILY INDICATE THAT THE CASTLE WAS REBUILT FROM 1168 ONWARDS. SINCE 1965, VARIOUS EXCAVATIONS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT IN AND AROUND THE CASTLE, AND RESTORATION WORKS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT ON THE WALLS AND TOWERS.CURRENTLY THE REGION IS UNDER THE CONTROL OF SYRIAN DEMOCRATIC FORCES (SDF).

I VISITED THAT HISTORICAL PLACES QAL’AT JABAR SEVERAL TIMES AT DIFFERENT TIMES AND PHOTOGRAPHED IT. THIS PHOTO ALBUM CONTAINS A SELECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN AT THESE DIFFERENT TIMES.
